U.S. Bellows, Inc. designed and fabricated tied universal expansion joints with stainless steel flanges for a nitrogen plant in Arizona. They are 10″ and 14″ diameter and are 140-3/8″ and 168″ OAL. The bellows are fabricated from 321 stainless steel and the pipe is 304L stainless steel. The expansion joints were dye-penetrant examined and hydro-tested to ensure product quality.

44″ Dia. Fabric Expansion Joints Designed for a Chemical Plant

These fabric expansion joints were fabricated from stainless steel pipe and flanges with a three layer fabric belt protected by an insulation pillow. Each joint is 44″ ID x 40″ face-to-face and designed for 3 PSIG at 845°F. The expansion joints are designed for a lateral movement of 1/2″ and an angular rotation of 1.5°. Stainless steel covers were included to protect the fabric expansion element from possible outside damage.
